ABOUT NAYAS

[One of] the areas’ finest ... which deftly shifts from rootsy reggae to ska to introspective rock”.
— The Washington Post

Nayas' mixed rhythms of cumbia, reggae, rock and ska know no limits as they demolish genre boundaries and never fail to bring down the house.  Led by Luis Torrealva (vocals/bass), who has been twice nominated by Washington Area Music Association as Best Latin Vocalist. He has also recorded recently with various Latin Alternative projects such as Machetres and with G-flux + La Yorona, presented by Maracuyeah.

Collectively hailing from Peru, Puerto Rico, El Salvador and the U.S., Nayas has become a fixture in DC, regularly playing its premier venues such as the 9:30 Club, Black Cat, The State Theatre, The Fillmore, The Hamilton, The Kennedy Center. They have shared the stage with Julieta VenegasMolotov, Calle 13, Si*, El Gran Silencio, Kinky, Yerba Buena, King Chango, Volumen Cero, Easy Star All-Stars, and Amigos Invisibles,  among others.

In 2012 they released their second full-length album Av. la Cura which was nominated by WAMA for "Best Latin Recording".

Radio and television appearances include:  Pandora Internet Radio, FM Radio,  WAMU's "Art Beat", WETA "Neighborhoods", Telemundo, Univision, KPFA Berkeley, CA, Viva 900 DC and "Veinte Lucas" on Canal Siete in Lima, Peru.

...regarded as one of the best Latin rock outfits in the D.C. area

— Rants Magazine
If there was ever a band I desperately wanted to join minutes after interviewing them, it would be DC based Latin alternative rock group, Nayas.
— Kesta Happening DC
